I got tired of those crappy little Scott's spreaders that bind up and quit within five minutes, so decided to get one of these. It does an AWESOME job! So far I've only used it for granular fertilizer, but it's done exceedingly well with that. The metal gear drive (which can be lubricated) is the probably the biggest selling point for me, but the capacity is so much more than everything else I've seen, and yet is comfortable to carry around. I've spread about 150 lbs. of fertilizer so far and the unit still looks and acts like it just came out of the box.

If you are thinking it's too expensive, I've only got one question for you -- would you rather spend this much for something that will last for years (I think), or would you prefer to spend about one-third the cost for a piece of garbage that won't even finish one job? It's a no-brainer for me.

I found this item to be perfect. For those who complained about the product collecting inside the wheel and then dropping off creating burn spots, a very easy fix is available. Sure, it would be nice if the manufacturer made a solid wheel, but that would increase cost of production (more plastic) and shipping (more weight). To fix the issue, take the left wheel off (depress the two little buttons and slide the wheel off the axle), then press an 8" aluminum pie plate against the hub to make in imprint. Cut out the hole, slide the pie plate (curved AWAY from the wheel) and wheel back on the axle.

Then use a mallet to gently pound the pie-plate flat enough so that it clears the bearing, and you have created a cover for the inside of the wheel. I just used mine on grass I had thoroughly wet down, and had no problem at all with fertilizer clumping inside the left wheel. I am a 76-year-old female. ;-D HTH.

I felt this was a risky purchase. Seemed to good to be true. For me, it worked extremely well, but just like almost all spreaders, if the granules are clumped, it will clog. It is so much easier than the typical handheld. I personally do not like the push machines. Too little control in tight spots. And the hand manual model is pretty tough on the arms if you have a large yard. This spreader is held like a suitcase. Sweet! Easy!

I don't know how long the batteries will last. I did about 3000 square feet. Seemed just as strong finishing as starting. I removed a batteries until next use. You can control the width of the path and the amount distributed.

The spreader is a good buy for the price. The spreader is very well constructed. I've used it to spread both pelletized lime and dry granular fertilizer for food plots and the yard and it functions well, spreads evenly and throws it a considerable distance. I put 80 pounds in it and it handled it great. It's really handy having the cigarette lighter plug that plugs directly into the 4 wheeler and an on/off switch you can mount just about anywhere. The heavy poly tank is nice as well, as it has a built in funnel to keep the material flowing and it won't rust. You should be able to spread anything you put in it with no problems as long as it's dry.
